WhatsApp Web Link Search: What It Looks Like

The details about the upcoming feature come via WaBetaInfo who shares the sense and purpose of this tool now being tested in beta. You might say that WhatsApp already has an easy way to search for links, so how is the upcoming tool any different?

WhatsApp realises that the app can be used to forward suspicious and fake news content and even manipulate it to spread widely.

But giving people the option to not only get information about the link but also cross-check if the text provided in the link is accurate and matches with the public information on the internet.

“When users choose to search for more information about a link, only the specific message containing the link will be uploaded to Google for the search,” the tipster explains in the post. ‘The refined feature aims to make it easier for users to identify potentially harmful links and take appropriate action,” the post adds.

WhatsApp assures the feature will be optional and only work if the user opts for it. More importantly, the feature does not share the message with the platform to make sure the content remains private and not stored anywhere on its servers.
