WhatsApp online status has been around for contacts and soon you will get it for group chats as well.
WhatsApp is now developing some new features to improve the user experience on its network. A new report claims that the massive instant messaging company is developing an online group chat counter feature. The top bar of group chats now displays the number of participants online, providing a fast overview of their availability. “It seems that WhatsApp is experimenting with new enhancements for the chat interface, with the aim to make it even more useful,” WABetaInfo mentioned.
“Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.25.30 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is rolling out an online counter feature for group chats,” WABetaInfo further added.
The tipster says the new feature that shows the number of members online at any given time in the group chat’s top app bar is available for some beta testers to test. The names of the group members and their current activity were previously summarised in the top app bar of group chats.
The Meta-owned app has changed its top app bar to display the number of participants online instead of an activity-based summary. Using this feature, users may quickly see how many group members are connected to the service and have the app open. “It’s worth noting that this count does not reflect how many participants are actively engaging in the group chat but only those who have the app open,” the report adds.
The report also noted that members who have disabled their online status visibility in their privacy settings are not included in the number of participants who are currently online. To guarantee that their privacy is always respected, these users will not be counted.
Because it does not take into account users who have opted to conceal their online status, this approach will preserve the balance between providing valuable group insights and safeguarding individual privacy preferences.
Some beta testers currently have access to this feature if they install the most recent versions of WhatsApp beta for Android from the Google Play Store. Over the next few weeks, it is anticipated to be made available to even more people.
